BlinkyBlinky by Jürgen Paas

The recollection of modern icons occupies contemporary artists everywhere. With his new series BlinkyBlinky Jürgen Paas reflects on the work of legendary Blinky Palermo, who himself is hardly classifiable, and who always had winking references to the history of art in his work.

Armin Hartenstein: MONTAN

Opening Reception Hanakam and Schuller

Until the 3rd of August, we will be showing the current art project “Interface” by Markus Hanakam and Roswitha Schuller in Dusseldorf. At yesterday’s opening reception Prof. Dr. Ferdinand Ullrich, director of the Kunsthalle Recklinghausen, conducted a conversation with the Vienna-based artist couple. Aside from that the artists gave an introduction into their work by use of a beamer projection. In spite of the oppressive heat it was a very illuminating talk, and the visitors stuck to it until the end.

Hanakam and Schuller in Düsseldorf

From the 25th of July to the 3rd of August, we will show the current art project “Interface” by Markus Hanakam and Roswitha Schuller in Dusseldorf. The opening on the 25th of July 2013 includes a discussion with Hanakam & Schuller lead by Prof. Dr. Ferdinand Ullrich, as well as a short presentation by the Viennese artist couple.
Markus Hanakam and Roswitha Schuller’s current work “Interface” (2013) represents an object based on drawing in a series of graphic works, which were created as set-elements of their short films. Comparable to other art works by the couple “Interface” again allows its audience to explore the connection between an apparatus and the graphical interface and operate or move individual elements. The art work consists of a ten meter long drawing trail on a roll, a wall construction and a table segment, which enables the participant to create via “scanning” a cutout version of the drawing. Comparable to other works by Hanakam & Schuller, they incorporate again in the case of “interface” small-scale plastic objects, which serve as placeholders or game tokens for the viewer as well as for future performers.

Julia Willms: Prologue in Düsseldorf

[Not a valid template]

Until 29 June Julia Willms and Andrea Bozic will be showing their work “A WORLD” at Mutter Ey-Straße 5 in Düsseldorf, a manifest, which changes its shape, depending on the context of its placement. At EY5 it is an audiovisual space installation for a visitor and an empty gallery space with an outside view, and it is a signed book-multiple (The multiple you can order HERE). In the future it will take on other shapes: The manifest is an artwork and the artwork is a generator.
Upcoming Friday the exhibition will be inaugurated in Essen, with a wider cross section of the work of Julia Willms and Andrea Bozic.

Hanakam & Schuller: CATALOGUE, part 1

Yesterday was the opening reception of the first part of the exhibition CATALOGUE by Markus Hanakam and Roswitha Schuller. Main work of this exhibition is the installation “White Cube with Sprinkles”, more than the half of the gallery floor is covered with sugar sprinkles. In addition to it two video works, one large-size drawing and two sculptures are to be seen, which all belong to the theme “TOPPINGS”. The Tartes by Hanakam & Schuller result from the artist couple’s ongoing occupation with dessert structures and toppings which they employ and explore as sculptural devices, translating the ranges of forms and color of these toppings into video animation, computer applications, objects, and occasional furniture.

Fidelity Real Estate.

In his work of recent years, the Hamburger project artist Christoph Faulhaber always exposed himself: One of his most famous actions was carried out 2005-2007 is the project “Mr. Security”, in which he and his colleague Lukasz Chrobok acted uninvited as a private security guard in front of U.S. embassies and consulates. Such actions and their documentation, Faulhaber permanently drew the anger of the U.S. Administration on himself – Refusal of entry and withdrawal scholarship inclusive. The debate about sovereignty and borders of public and private space flows with Christoph Faulhaber in the exploration of the limits of artistic freedom. For his now in the cor gallery zurich presented project Faulhaber becomes the broker and owner of the real estate company “Fidelity Real Estate”, which offered various objects on the Caribbean island of Cuba for sale. The glossy brochure and presentation of traditional real estate advertising disguised as work does not conceal the irritation that arises quickly: Image and Image caption do not match. Photographs, wich Faulhaber has taken 2008 while a visit to Cuba of decaying and useless buildings, he combines with texts that come from a brochure for luxury homes in Florida. Only the locations were changed, so now luxurious and desirable properties in the “Boom Town” Havana are advertised. In a subtle way Faulhaber questioned the potency of images and their subtexts: “At a time when all that we encounter read as images or symbols and take in every situation assessment requires, what really stands behind it, also works of art because in this new concept of image to acquire.” (Christoph Faulhaber)

In a second focus of the exhibition Faulhaber presents his project “cooperatives” which was considered at the “Art & Architecture” – cooperative competition Kalkbreite in Zurich on 1 Price (240,000 CHF). “With the unanimous choice of Faulhaber’s proposal, the jury selected the most consistent and also most radical proposal.” (PR release of the cooperative Kalkbreite)
