Dieter Kränzlein and Till Augustin
From the 6th of September to the 5th October Galerie Obrist is exhibiting selected pieces by the two renowned sculptors Dieter Kränzlein and Till Austin. The artists use materials that appear static, solid and motionless by nature. Nevertheless, both artists succeeded in inverting the properties of the materials and turned them into light, flexible and rhythmical appearing objects. This achievement is always based on a very complex and elaborate working process, which at the same time constitutes the basis of the dialogue between the two artists.
For the first time, Dieter Kränzlein presented in the context of this exhibition his newest series: The innovative resin sculptures are made from casts taken from his well-known limestone-sculptures, which are included in the exhibition as well. The works are characterized by their translucent nature, which in interaction with light alludes to ice crystals or glacier water. The artist from Stuttgart is now presenting his work for the 6th times in cooperation with Galerie Obrist. Furthermore, his work has already been displayed at numerous international exhibitions and fairs.
Till Augustine is best known for his elaborate steel sculptures and has been part of the European art market for more than three decades now. His works are created out of an autodidactic process, in which he turns the robust material, welds it and often transforms it by cutting sharp edges into the form. The result shows that his objects have overcome the initial material properties and has become a flowing, new form.

Fidelity Real Estate.
In his work of recent years, the Hamburger project artist Christoph Faulhaber always exposed himself: One of his most famous actions was carried out 2005-2007 is the project “Mr. Security”, in which he and his colleague Lukasz Chrobok acted uninvited as a private security guard in front of U.S. embassies and consulates. Such actions and their documentation, Faulhaber permanently drew the anger of the U.S. Administration on himself – Refusal of entry and withdrawal scholarship inclusive. The debate about sovereignty and borders of public and private space flows with Christoph Faulhaber in the exploration of the limits of artistic freedom. For his now in the cor gallery zurich presented project Faulhaber becomes the broker and owner of the real estate company “Fidelity Real Estate”, which offered various objects on the Caribbean island of Cuba for sale. The glossy brochure and presentation of traditional real estate advertising disguised as work does not conceal the irritation that arises quickly: Image and Image caption do not match. Photographs, wich Faulhaber has taken 2008 while a visit to Cuba of decaying and useless buildings, he combines with texts that come from a brochure for luxury homes in Florida. Only the locations were changed, so now luxurious and desirable properties in the “Boom Town” Havana are advertised. In a subtle way Faulhaber questioned the potency of images and their subtexts: “At a time when all that we encounter read as images or symbols and take in every situation assessment requires, what really stands behind it, also works of art because in this new concept of image to acquire.” (Christoph Faulhaber)
In a second focus of the exhibition Faulhaber presents his project “cooperatives” which was considered at the “Art & Architecture” – cooperative competition Kalkbreite in Zurich on 1 Price (240,000 CHF). “With the unanimous choice of Faulhaber’s proposal, the jury selected the most consistent and also most radical proposal.” (PR release of the cooperative Kalkbreite)

Today artist talk with Armin Scheid
Tonight at 6.30 Armin Scheid will answer questions about his pictures.
The Cologne artist studied at the University of Dortmund and the Düsseldorf Art Academy, and was assistant to Prof. Norbert Tadeusz for several years. Since 2003 he has co-developed the exhibition series “junge kunst” in Cologne. In his painting, Scheid is concerned with inventing a “new pictorial reality of his own, based on a motif that fascinates him, which concentrates entirely on working with pictorial means.”
